Jeepatastic

Some memorable moments on our way to the Triple Depth 2009 Competition at the Blue Hole on the third day on the back of a dinky four wheel drive. A couple of little kids dinked with us for a long ride on the main road, and admittedly it was kind of scary watching them trying to ‘land’ without getting ‘carpet burn’ on their bare feet. The jeep struggled quite a bit as it got to the rough unsealed terrain at the edge of the mud hills, and the engine would turn off every 50 meters or so, the sound of it trying to restart sounded worse than an old man trying to force out a ball of stubborn phlegm. Other jeeps full of jeering tourists and a herd of camels waddled past us, as we sat helplessly waiting for Driver-Mo to get our jeep started. He was obviously too polite to ask us to hop down and push…

Just as we thought we would get there on time before our athletes got disqualified, the fattest man in Dahab chose to dink with us as well (no wonder he’s so fat – he only needed to walk 200 meters!!), which lunged the poor beaten vehicle on one side and its wheels produced more screetching noices. Bless Allah the trusty old timer made it over its last bump and everyone lived happily ever after.
