Apart from all the goofy silliness of tourists/hooligans (divided into two distinct camps of SOM or Mozart die hard fans, often brawling after a few beers) and overpriced schweinschnitzles, Salzburg is actually an extremely tranquil small town with a crisp river, dreamy gardens and modest baroque buildings and acceptable beer. And if you sing Rain drops on roses and whiskers on kittens (Favourite Things) - or Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, depending on which camp- hard enough, the miserable rain actually turns into sunshine.
